According to data released by regular chart compiler Chart-Track, via UK trade paper MCV, the lifetime-to-date sales total for the Wii has now surpassed the Xbox 360 in the UK, despite a yearlong head start for Microsoft’s console and continued stock problems since launch for the Wii.
In keeping with Chart-Track and ELSPA’s usual policies, few specific sales figures were released beyond the fact that the Wii sold over 100,000 units last week. Wii exclusive Sonic & Mario at the Olympic Games is currently also the best selling software title in the UK.
At the same time, the Nintendo DS has broken the same sales record in the UK, which it itself only set three weeks ago, selling 191,104 units in a single week. During the last week, this figure was beaten with a total of 212,584 units.
The previous hardware record holder in the UK, before the Nintendo DS, was the PlayStation 2, whose Christmas week sales record stood at 184,360 units in 2001.
