Microsoft Offering Chair's Undertow For Live Downtime

Following promises made in early January, Microsoft has announced that it will be offering Chair's XBLA shooter Undertow for free from next Wednesday to Sunday, in response to recent Xbox Live downtime and connection problems users have had experienced in previous weeks.

As noted by Microsoft's Gamerscoreblog, a new update to Live general manager Marc Whitten's letter to subscribers reads, "We’re pleased to announce that from 2:00 a.m. PST Wednesday, January 23, 2008 through 11:59 p.m. PST, Sunday, January 27, 2008 you can download the full version of the recent Xbox LIVE Arcade game, Undertow free of charge."

The game, developed by Advent Rising creators Chair Entertainment was first released in November of last year, and features a 15-level single-player mode and a co-op campaign with two multiplayer modes for up to 16 participants.

The company has said it will not be offering optional Microsoft Points for users that have already purchased the full version of the game. The company has not yet announced which, if any, new titles will be arriving on Live the same day.

Gamerscoreblog said of the Live issues, "We’ve implemented several improvements to the service, to help ensure ongoing reliability and performance. As the popularity of Xbox Livexpands, we’ll continue to closely monitor the service and make adjustments. As always, if you are having any problems, please contact your local support (1-800-4-MYXBOX in North America) so that we can assist you."

wow it figures, they pick a game I already own because it deserved the purchase. I get nothing then, well maybe more people to play with I guess.

The demo had a frustrating learning curve from super easy level one to impossible level two. It was unplayable and barely worth the download time =(. I would have taken Microsoft points instead. It's kind of ridiculous to say "we're sorry for the downtime, here is the weakest game in our portfolio to make up for it."

At least your xbox didn't break last week like mine did, I won't even have an xbox to download the game to before the deadline they gave!
