Sony Officially Announces PlayStation Store Revamp

Following early reports that the PS3's PlayStation Store would see a major revamp in April, Sony has officially unveiled the new look, also noting that no additional content would be added until the relaunch.

Sony has said that the PlayStation Store redesign was made in response to user feedback, specifically a 2007 survey that found users wanted a better interface and easier navigation. The new design is aimed at addressing those demands, and promises navigational improvements, broader categorization and a new user interface.

The update is expected to roll out in mid-April, but until then weekly updates to the store will cease. Users can, however, continue to download back catalog content.

Finally, the company notes that the ongoing redesign will not affect users' PlayStation Network accounts or their virtual wallets, and that the relaunch is expected to bring content like the highly anticipated racer Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.
