Epic, EA Announce Unreal Engine 3 License Extension
Advertisement
Following the mid-2006 licensing of Unreal Engine 3 for titles including Medal Of Honor Airborne and Army Of Two, Electronic Arts has announced an UE3 license extension agreement with Epic, involving "more than five upcoming titles".

According to a brief statement released by the two parties, "...this new agreement reflects EA's confidence in the Unreal Engine by providing EA development teams with industry-leading tools and technologies to best serve the needs of each game."

Other than noting that, under this new agreement, Electronic Arts "...will have the right to incorporate the Unreal Engine 3 in more than five upcoming titles currently under development", specific studios and titles were not revealed.

However, initial press coverage of first-person action title Command And Conquer: Tiberium, in development at Medal Of Honor franchise hub Electronic Arts Los Angeles, has indicated that Tiberium uses UE3, likely making it one of the un-named titles.

"With the largest and most talented studio operation in the world, it's critical for us to give our studio teams the best tools they need to make great games," said Frank Gibeau, President, at EA. "This agreement reflects our commitment to Epic's technology which, in combination with our own cutting-edge systems, allows us to create ground breaking hits."
