Publisher Activision has announced that Xbox Live Marketplace sales for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare's Variety Map Pack have already exceeded one million paid downloads nine days after its release, setting a new record for the service.

In addition, Xbox Live members have played over 30 million sessions and logged more than 30 million hours of gameplay with the Infinity Ward-developed first-person shooter.

In new information released by Activision following yesterday's NPD results, since the game's multiplatform release, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has sold in excess of nine million units worldwide.

The Variety Map Pack includes four new multiplayer maps and is available exclusively through the Xbox Live Marketplace until April 24, when the maps will be made available on the PlayStation Network for $9.99. The set sells for the same price on Xbox Live.

Community relations manager Robert Bowling said, “Infinity Ward is extremely grateful for support from our loyal Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare community around the world. From the beginning, we were committed to do our best and that continues now with the Variety Map Pack. We can’t wait to get back online with everyone.”

30 million hours of online gameplay? That is over 14,000 work years...staggering.

That is how many hours goes into two years at a typical Toyota plant...building a half million vehicles.
