Los Angeles-based publisher Sierra Entertainment, a division of Vivendi Games, has announced its plans to release The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, a video game adaptation of the Universal Pictures summer film, on July 22nd for the Wii, PlayStation 2, and Nintendo DS. Eurocom Studios is developing the home console releases, while A2M has been brought in to work on the Nintendo DS version.

Based on the third entry to The Mummy movie series and presented as a third-person action-adventure game, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor will have players taking on the roles of Rick O'Connell and his son, Alex. Gamers follow the characters through a variety of exotic locations, including Chinese catacombs and Himalayan peaks, to defeat servants of the Dragon Emperor.

Players will be able to switch between gunplay and hand-to-hand melee attacks during action portions of the game, but opportunities for puzzle-solving and hieroglyphic decoding will also appear in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

Said Bill Kispert, vice president and general manager of Universal Pictures' interactive division: "The Mummy is one of the most distinctive and expansive franchises in Universal's portfolio, and there is inherent gameplay in the property. The new film amps up the action, introduces a ruthless new villain and takes our heroes to incredible new locations. We are thrilled to bring all these attributes to life in this game."
