Electronic Arts has announced Skate It, a new entry in its skateboarding video game series Skate due later this year. Designed exclusively for the Nintendo DS and Wii, Skate It FlickIt controls will support the DS’s touchscreen and the Wii’s Balance Board peripheral.
Using the FlickIt control method, Skate It players will be able to string together tricks with a stylus in the DS game and execute moves by gesturing with the Remote in the Wii release. For further immersion, players can use the Wii Balance Board, an accessory included with interactive fitness game Wii Fit, to take advantage of unspecified features.
Developed by EA Black Box and debuted in September 2007, Skate for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 outsold rival skateboarding title and genre-dominating series Tony Hawk's Proving Ground 2 to 1. A sequel, Skate 2 is currently in development for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Said Skate franchise executive producer Scott Blackwood: “We knew it would be an exciting challenge to bring the soul and feel of skateboarding to the Wii and Nintendo DS. With fresh new designs and gameplay components built from scratch, we've been able to, once again, capture the true experience of skateboarding in a completely innovative way.”
