Coldplay To Debut New Single In Guitar Hero III

Alternative rock band Coldplay will include its new single, “Violet Hill,” from the group’s upcoming Viva la Vida album, with a three-track downloadable song pack for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. The pack will be available for the Xbox 360 (Xbox Live Marketplace) and the PlayStation 3 (PlayStation Store) starting June 19.

The Coldplay song pack will also include two others popular tracks from the band’s catalog, “Yellow” from their debut album, Parachutes, and “God Put a Smile Upon Your Face” from A Rush of Blood to the Head.

The release of its new single through Guitar Hero III follows similar single releases by heavy metal groups Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard on both Rock Band and Guitar Hero III.

According to a Reuters report, Mötley Crüe’s Rock Band song for its new single, “Saints of Los Angeles," was downloaded over 47,000 times in its first week of availability for the Xbox 360 version alone, nearly five times the downloads via digital services such as iTunes and Amazon, which Nielsen SoundScan reports numbered at 10,000 downloads.

Interesting point from the Reuter's article:
-------------
That's a pretty big discrepancy considering that music bought via "Rock Band" can't be transferred to a portable music player or even a computer for later enjoyment. It can be played only via the game.
-----------------
You can compare the numbers for iTunes and Rock Band/Guitar Hero III, but they aren't really competing as much as they're working together.

Sounds to me like we'll be seeing a lot more singles released through these games. fun :D
