Metal Gear Undisturbed At Top Of UK Charts

Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 4 on PlayStation 3 has enjoyed a second week at the top of the UK individual format sales charts, despite a 59 percent drop in sales. The fall was enough for it to lose its place at the top of the combined format charts, though, where it is replaced with the multiformat Lego Indiana Jones, whose sales fell by only 29 percent in its third week.

The highest new entry, at number three in the individual format charts, is the Xbox 360 version of Atari’s new Alone in the Dark title, which Chart-Track indicates saw sales under half that of Metal Gear Solid 4 this week. The PlayStation 2, Wii, and PC versions of the game did not chart in the top forty.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII marks a rare entry in the UK top ten for a PSP title at number seven, with sales of the heavily promoted game accounting for 54 percent of all full price PSP games sold this week.

Also of note in the top ten is the four place rise for Wii Play at number two, always a sign of increased Wii hardware availability in the UK – with Mario Kart Wii also up nine places to number eight. Stock of Wii Fit has again hit problems, though, following last week’s limited replenishment, down eighteen places at number twenty-nine.

Outside of the top ten, the highest new entry of the week is Touch! Generations title Cooking Guide: Can’t Decide What To Eat? (aka Cooking Navi) for Nintendo DS at number nineteen.

With Wimbledon not having started during the period covered by these charts, 2K Sports’ Top Spin 3 appears at number twenty-eight for PlayStation 3 and at number thirty-two for Xbox 360 - a so far rare example of a PlayStation 3 multiformat title outselling the Xbox 360 version.

Overall in the top forty, there are eleven titles for the Wii, ten for the Nintendo DS, nine for the Xbox 360, seven for the PlayStation 3, two for the PSP, one for the PlayStation 2, and none on the PC.
