SouthPeak To Bring Roogoo To Wii, DS

Publisher SouthPeak has announced that it will be bringing developer SpiderMonk's Xbox Live Arcade and PC puzzler Roogoo to the Nintendo Wii and DS in 2008, featuring new levels, new modes, and cross-compatibility between the handheld and console.

First announced in February, players are tasked with "guiding meteors in the form of shaped blocks though a series of rotating disks as a means of saving planet Roo and the entire Roogoo race. If aligned correctly, the disks allow the blocks to reach the ground and scores are awarded."

The title was released in June for Xbox Live Arcade and PC, and featured more than 45 puzzle levels with both single and two-player multiplayer modes, as well as separate "party game" modes.

SouthPeak says the Wii version will utilize the console's unique motion sensitive controls for up to four players in new adversarial, cooperative and party play modes. The DS will control using the touchscreen with new levels, backgrounds and unique puzzle shapes.

Additionally, the publisher says the console and handheld can link to use the DS as a controller for the Wii version, which it adds "adds to the challenge and fun."

Title creator SpiderMonk previously has served primarily as a mobile phone developer, with such titles under its belt as NBC Sports National Heads-UP Poker and a mobile version of boxing title Ready2Rumble.

Said SouthPeak CEO Melanie Mroz, "Roogoo is a perfect fit for Nintendo gamers. It’s a great family-friendly puzzler with fantastic gameplay that can take advantage of the unique offering of these two systems. We’re very excited about making Roogoo part of the Nintendo lineup later this year."
