Independent engine developer GarageGames has announced the release of its Torque engine for Apple's iPhone, bringing the 2D and 3D capabilities of the company's Game Engine and Game Builder to the platform with full support for the iPhone's unique interface features.

The company says the iPhone version includes a a full-featured WYSIWYG realtime editor, integration with a number of 3D modeling packages, and its own scripting language and more.

GarageGames also notes that the SDK integrates Apple's iPhone SDK emulation for testing, and supports all of the unique iPhone features including multi-touch input, touchscreen gestures, optimized compressed textures, and advanced character and shape animations.

Said business development VP Brett Seyler, "We've already seen enormous interest in the iPhone within the Torque community. Game developers want to make games for the iPhone and this is a natural step since we're already a very good choice for developing OSX games. Apple has been great to work with in the past and the very polished iTunes Store as a marketplace for games should encourage developers to continue pushing boundaries on the iPhone without worrying about the usual publishing and distribution difficulties involved in making a successful mobile game."
