 WAR Reaches 750,000 Players
Advertisement
750,000 players have registered for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning in North America, Europe and Australian territories, says developer Mythic Entertainment.

"Thanks to our players, the war between the Realms continues to escalate at an incredible pace," says Mythic co-founder and general manager Mark Jacobs.

The developer, an Electronic Arts studio,
said in late September that 500,000 registrations took place in the first week following the game's September 18 launch, simultaneous in the applicable territories.

Mythic has also said that in its first week the game became EA's most pre-ordered PC title, and claims WAR was also the fastest-selling new MMO of all time, with 1.5 million units sold to retailers in launch territories.

Says Jacobs, "The battlefields are alive with three quarters of a million players fighting for the forces of Order and Destruction in truly epic and unparalleled Realm vs. Realm battles!"

Waaaagh!

Glad someone finally made a game that can actually compete with WoW in terms of quality and fun in the MMO genre.

I agree! It is probably one of the best games in the genre because it rewards you for literally everything. Want to grind out on some mobs? Do a public quest and help others and win cool prizes. Want to play mostly PVP but still gain experience? Sure go ahead and we'll even give you rep bonuses as well so you get extra goodies on top of that...its nice that it makes the "work" fun.

Honestly, it's got its moments but it's also got a lot of meh. I'm already getting bored. The PQs and RvR battlefields are nice but is it me or does it seem like more of the same? I mean, the Champions and Heroes are crazy overpowered (would've been better if they balanced based on the number of people within the PQ area), the quests are pretty standard, crafting is boring after a while (I understand their philosophy behind it but some peopl actually do like to craft), and I don't see a whole lot that's new. The only thing they've got that's truly unique beyond the PQs is the IP but I'd suspect more people know and appreciate the Warcraft IP than those that like teh WH IP (I like the latter personally).

Don't get me wrong, I think they're doing a great job so far (largely blunder-free launch and they haven't done the WoW thing of ruining the smooth launch with bug-laden patches post-launch) but I think all they've done is carved out a piece of the pie...Definitely doing a lot better than Vanguard and AoC which everyone thought were going to go for the money and haven't.

Congrats to you Mythic, I am enjoying the game quite a bit.
