Report: DSi Effectively Sells Out In First Two Days In Japan

Nintendo's new DSi handheld sold 170,779 units in its first two days, according to data from Famitsu publisher Enterbrain -- based on Nintendo's own data, this means the DSi is just about sold out in Japan.

Consumer site IGN reports that at Nintendo's recent investor meeting, president Satoru Iwata said the company shipped 200,000 DSi units on its first day, which leaves about 30,000 units to be accounted for by unclaimed pre-orders and store stock on the handheld's third day of release, which was a holiday.

100,000 more DSi units will be shipped to retailers the week after its launch, Iwata added.

Nintendo first announced the DSi at its Tokyo press event on October 2, showing off the DS upgrade's camera, usic playing abilities, an SD card slot, built-in flash memory, and digital downloads via the new 'Nintendo DS Shop'. It officially launched in Japan on November 2nd and costs 18,900 yen ($180).

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has since said that the DSi won't see a North American launch until "well into 2009."
