Audiokinetic Integrates Wwise With Unreal Engine 3

Audiokinetic's audio pipeline product, Wwise, is now integrated with Epic's Unreal Engine 3 through Epic's Integrated Partners Program, the companies announced today. The partnership will allow licensees of UE3 to use Wwise in their development pipelines.

Wwise, designed for next-gen platforms, combines an audio authoring tool with a sound engine. It allows users to audit, profile and modify sounds in-game and in realtime. Audiokinetic says Wwise is currently in use by 85 titles, a "significant percent" of which are Unreal Engine-developed games.

The integration combines Wwise with the functionality of the Unreal Editor, with the aim of offering developers a complete solution.

Audiokinetic president and CEO André Nadeau says, "Being part of Epic’s Integrated Partners Program is an important stamp of approval for our products and our company. It will contribute to develop the Wwise user-base worldwide, allowing more and more developers to take advantage of Wwise to create increasingly immersive audio environments and offer awe-inspiring gameplay."

Epic Games president Michael Capps adds, "We work closely with middleware providers to ensure the Unreal Engine's ease of use with other leading tools and technology."

"This integration will cut down on programming time and effort for our licensees who are using Wwise, and Epic is supporting Audiokinetic directly to ensure the package is kept up to date with all the latest upgrades to Unreal Engine 3."
