Video game industry exhibitors increased their presence and show space for next week's hobbyist convention New York Comic Con by 50 percent over the previous year.
The three-day event will take place from February 6 - 8 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City, and game exhibitors plan to occupy over 11,000 square feet of the convention floor.
The increased game industry presence at the largely consumer-orientated show mirrors the increase in game industry presence at the San Diego Comic Con, and appears to show the importance of consumer events that show games alongside other media.
Notably, according to NYCC organizers, the video game section's growth since 2008 is the largest out of all the other media displayed at NYCC -- including comics, graphic novels, anime, manga, toys, movies, and television.
Some of the publishers and games that will attend NYCC include the following:
Activision: X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2, and Prototype
Atari: Champions Online, Ghostbusters: The Video Game, The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, and Ready 2 Rumble Revolution
Codemasters: Fuel, Damnation, Overlord 2, Overlord Dark Legend, and Jumpgate Evolution
Electronic Arts: Spore Galactic Adventures, Godfather 2, Dragon Age, Burnout Paradise, Battle Forge and Battlefield Heroes
Namco Bandai Games America: Afro Samurai, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 4, Splatterhouse, and We Ski & Snowboard
SouthPeak Games: Velvet Assassin, X-Blades, Roogoo: Attack, and Roogoo: Twisted Towers
Cryptic Studios, Mythic Entertainment, Rockstar Games, Sega, THQ, and Ubisoft also plan to "have a prominent role" at New York Comic Con, according to a statement.
