Valve's digital distribution platform Steam will now support downloadable content for any title it offers. Developers who publish via Steam will be able to release separate DLC content packs for their titles.

Any title on Steam can now sell additional DLC -- regardless of whether players originally purchased it via Steam, retail or any other digital distribution outlet. Valve's Steamworks tool set for developers also now adds the ability to release DLC.

The first Steam title to receive DLC will be Twisted Pixel's The Maw, which gets levels entitled "Brute Force" and "River Redirect," each of which is intended to fit in between original levels as "deleted scenes."

"We're happy that we can now offer Steam customers significant expansions to the Maw story, delivering more Maw directly to gamers while they're still playing the game," says Twisted Pixel CEO Michael Wilford.
