Chinese Outsourcer Virtuos Acquires Audio Firm BSP

Shanghai-based game outsourcing firm Virtuos has expanded its operations with the acquisition of fellow Shanghai firm Besides Sound Production.

BSP produces audio exclusively for video games, and has contributed to dozens of PC and console titles since it was founded in 2004 by composer Yang Jie, who also teaches audio and sound design at Shanghai Music Institute. The company's clients include 2K Games, Epic China, Ubisoft, and Disney Interactive.

New parent company Virtuos focuses mainly on art and animation services for external developers, as well as contracted co-development. With the integration of BSP into its business, it will create a sound production team. In particular, today's announcement noted that there is "very little trained talent available in China" in the audio production arena, making the BSP deal a crucial part of Virtuos' growth strategy.

"By combining Virtuos’ infrastructure with BSP’s expertise, we look forward to contribute to high-quality audio in many new titles for Chinese and international game developers alike," said Virtuos CEO Gilles Langourieux.

Added Yang Jie, "I have known Virtuos CEO Gilles Langourieux and his management team for over 10 years; by joining forces with Virtuos, I believe my team and I will find new resources to pursue the vision of Besides Sound Production farther."
