As Midway faces Chapter 11 restructuring alongside $240 million in debt, its crediting woes have reportedly led to bonuses being withheld from the team behind its flagship Mortal Kombat franchise.
According to a report from consumer weblog Kotaku, Midway representatives claim its creditors are stalling bonus payouts to the team behind the franchise, whose most recent installment was Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.
Although Midway won't comment on the team's plans, the report claims the "frustrated" developers are even seeking an out from the company in order to form their own studio. But as the company owns the Mortal Kombat IP, the team wouldn't be bringing the franchise with it.
After coming under heavy fire from its creditors, Midway recently modified an incentives plan for its employees based on several "milestones" -- one of which included the possible sale of the Mortal Kombat franchise, which the company has claimed it would prefer not to offload.
