RealGames Announces Federation of Studios Mobile Porting Solution

RealGames, the casual games publishing arm of media delivery company RealNetworks, has announced the Federation of Studios, a publishing initiative that allows mobile game developers to port their games across more than 1700 supported handsets.
The Federation, aimed at small and mid-sized game development studios, provides porting services with no initial cost. The process supports eight different operating systems across 130 carriers and direct-to-consumer distributors.
RealGames notes that members of the Federation of Studios will also have access to Real's EMERGE development platform, along with the company's integrated marketing and distribution process.
"For many small, innovative studios and publishers today, keeping up with the fragmentation and demands of the carrier market has become increasingly challenging, forcing them to focus on fewer handsets where non-carrier distribution is a viable option," said RealGames vice president of content Matt Turetzky.
Turetzky continues: "This means lots of great games are developed for handsets like iPhone, Blackberry or Windows Mobile that don't make it into the hands of other consumers. The Federation of Studios bridges this gap by providing a simple, efficient way to reach more than 2 billion customers worldwide, with no entry costs required from developer partners."
Real's EMERGE platform is devoted to the creation of games for touch screen and tilt-enabled mobile devices. EMERGE games can be ported to multiple platforms, including J2ME, BREW, iPhone, Windows Mobile, Blackberry, Android, Nintendo DSi and Flash.
