Batman: Arkham Asylum Ships 2.5 Million

Rocksteady Studios is off to a strong commercial start with its acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum, say co-publishers Eidos and Warner Bros., with more than 2.5 million units of the game shipped so far.

That figure refers only to copies of the game distributed to retailers, not to the number sold through to actual consumers; a Los Angeles Times report from earlier this month claims 2 million copies have been sold, although it may have also been referring to shipped numbers.

The second game from London-based Rocksteady Studios, Arkham Asylum has seen near-unanimous praise -- an achievement highlighted by the dismal quality record exhibited by games based on the Batman. Warner Interactive president Martin Tremblay tipped a hat to Rocksteady's work.

"The tremendous critical and commercial success of Batman: Arkham Asylum sets a new benchmark for superhero games," Tremblay said. "Rocksteady Studios created an excellent game and the sales numbers demonstrate how a powerful franchise fused with high-quality production resonates with consumers."

Arkham Asylum shipped last month for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and this month for PC.

I am going to love this game whenever I get a chance to play it. I have a feeling it will be a great buy after the holiday season.

I'm really impressed this year with the comic based games. Wolverine was pretty solid, and this Batman game is a true gem. I hope this trend continues with comic and licensed games in general.
