Japanese Charts: Pokemon Leads Again, PS3 Sales Decline

For the second week in a row, Pokemon Soul Silver and Pokemon Heart Gold led Japanese charts, as the new slim PlayStation 3 hardware experienced a mild decrease.

Sales for Pokemon Soul Silver were 222,000, topping the list for the week ended September 20, according to Media Create. Its counterpart, Pokemon Heart Gold, sold 220,000 units for the week.

The two Pokemon games are remakes of the 10-year-old Game Boy Color games, Pokemon Gold and Silver. Each of the new games has reached nearly 1 million units in sales after just two weeks on the market.

New games appearing on this week's list include Namco Bandai's strong-selling Tales of Vesperia, Konami's baseball game Jikkyou Pawapuro Pro Yakkyuu Portable 4, and Square Enix's DS game, SaGa 2: Hihou Densetsu Goddess of Destiny.

On the hardware front, the new cheaper and slimmer PS3 reached weekly sales of 51,055, down slightly from the prior week's 55,344, and way down from the new hardware's debut week, which saw sales of 150,252.

DSi sales led with 66,073, while DS Lite sales were 13,555, bringing total DS sales to 79,628. Wii sales shrunk slightly week-on-week to 16,698.
