Illuminate Labs, the Swedish company behind in-game lighting technology used in games including God of War III, Killzone 2, and Mirror's Edge, is opening a San Francisco office.

The new office, located in downtown San Francisco, is Gothenburg, Sweden-based Illuminate Labs' first U.S. location, the company said Wednesday. The office will "focus on technical sales and on-site consulting."

"We are making this move in order to provide a higher level of service to our existing clients and partners as well as to help respond to the growing interest we are seeing from new studios that are evaluating our lighting technology," said Illuminate Labs CEO Magnus Wennerholm in a statement.

Leading the new office is David Larsson, who Illuminate Labs said has been with the company since 2004, and has been involved with the development of the company's lighting tools.

Illuminate Labs' lighting tools are based on the company's proprietary LiquidLight technology. The tool developer is responsible for the content pipeline tool Beast, and Turtle, a toolset for Autodesk Maya.
