'EA 2D' Emerges With First Flash Game, Dragon Age: Journeys

A small group of experienced Flash game developers have emerged as "EA 2D," which intends on creating "blockbusters for the browser," beginning with a spin-off of BioWare's upcoming RPG Dragon Age.

EA 2D producer Ethan Levy announced in a Thursday blog post on BioWare's website Dragon Age: Journeys, a hex-based tactical RPG developed in collaboration with EA-owned BioWare.

Development of the game began in November 2008, and currently, EA 2D is developing an initial three-chapter installment of Dragon Age: Journeys, subtitled The Deep Roads.

Levy said that it worked closely with BioWare on the project, with EA 2D using "pages upon pages of reference materials, story documents, concept art and screenshots," as well as feedback from the core BioWare team, in order to stay true to the upcoming main PC and console Dragon Age, due next month.

EA 2D will develop games based on original properties, as well as "other EA franchises," Levy said. He did not state any specific game development plans aside from Dragon Age: Journeys.

According to Levy, The Deep Roads' team is led by Daniel Stradwick, a Flash game developer responsible for the widely-played Flash RPG series Monster's Den.

In addition, Bitey Castle's Adam Phillips is handling the art and animation, Mytheria creator Andrew Sega offered additional programming, and new game writer Marcelo Poppi wrote the story. Phillips said on his blog that he expects a beta for Dragon Age: Journeys to launch later this month.
