Sony Adds New TV, Movie Content Partnerships For PSN

New partnerships for Sony Computer Entertainment America will bring video series like Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Leverage, and films like Hurlyburly and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to its PlayStation Network service.

SCEA has hooked up with Lucasfilm, Cinetic Filmbuff, Image Entertainment, MPI Media Group and New Video to add the new content, and says it will add more content offerings from its new partners over time. The initial round of new flicks and shows are already live on PSN, where users can download them on either PlayStation 3 or PSP.

"PlayStation Network now boasts the most content of any downloadable video delivery service through a videogame console available today," said Sony, highlighting its total of 40 partners, its 2,300 movies and 14,400 television shows.

The company also said the popularity of its video delivery service "has continued to skyrocket" since its July 2008 launch, with a 100 percent increase in downloads year over year as of September 2009. PlayStation Network itself has over 29 million registered users.
