Microsoft Details Xbox Live Rewards Program

Microsoft has kicked off the rewards program it's been exploring, launching a pilot program that offers Xbox 360 users Points "just for doing the stuff Xbox Live members do all the time."

According to a statement on the company's dedicated web portal for the program, Xbox Live members can earn points for renewing Gold subscriptions and receive rewards when they spend on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

The program is apparently designed primarily to reward Xbox Live Gold subscribers, who earn points for membership renewals tiered for duration, for purchasing games on the service and for remaining Gold subscribers on a monthly basis.

"The best part is, the more you spend, the more you get, and for each month you stay on Gold, the higher your monthly reward up to 5% of your Marketplace spend," says the company. Both Gold and Silver subscribers earn rewards for participating in program surveys.

The points offered in the rewards program are the same Microsoft Points users must purchase to apply toward Xbox Live Marketplace offerings. News that the company was exploring such a reward system surfaced recently, when it offered email invitations to the pilot to a limited number of Gold members.

Just another money-making scheme rather than actual reward program.

I thought they would do something like this, but by taking advantage of the Gamerscores. That's sad.

To earn rewards and participate in the Xbox 360 LIVE Rewards Pilot Program (the "Program"), you must be a legal resident of one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, 17 years or older, agree to these Xbox 360 LIVE Rewards Pilot Program Terms and Conditions (“Terms&Conditions”), and were informed by Microsoft (“Sponsor”, “we”, or “our”) via email confirmation that you were accepted into the Program. Void where prohibited by law.

It seems to be only available for the US.

Interesting comments fellas. I'm curious, what is "sad" about giving people rewards for renewing Xbox Live Gold accounts that they're already renewing sans rewards?

I take surveys to start with so I don't mind that and hey if I get a little something back for purchasing great arcade titles that's great.
