Top-Grossing iPhone Apps: Call of Duty Takes Top Honors

Every week, sister iPhone site FingerGaming rounds up the top-grossing iPhone and iPod Touch applications, as current that day in the iTunes App Store, and this chart is now available on Gamasutra.

This week's U.S. iPhone revenue charts see Call of Duty: World at War Zombies taking the lead over last week's top seller Bejeweled 2, while Monopoly finishes its first week at third place.

This relatively recently-added chart allows end users to see who is making the most money on the App Store that day. It differs significantly from the Top 10 Games chart, which is ranked by sales, and therefore is dominated by lower-priced titles that sell more copies.

Data comes courtesy of Apple's public sales information. All titles in the App Store's "Games" category are considered in chart rankings.

This week's top-grossing U.S. App Store titles are:

1. Call of Duty: World at War Zombies ($9.99)
2. Bejeweled 2 ($2.99)
3. Monopoly ($4.99)
4. The Sims 3 ($6.99)
5. Tetris ($4.99)
6. Surviving High School ($2.99)
7. Scrabble ($4.99)
8. JellyCar 2 ($0.99)
9. World Series of Poker: Hold 'Em Legend ($4.99)
10. Rock Band ($6.99)

Activision's recently released Call of Duty: World at War Zombies overtakes PopCap's Bejeweled 2 in today's top-grossing app charts. EA's adaptation of the classic board game Monopoly also sees big first-week sales, and ranks in at third place.

EA captures several additional spots in today's chart with popular titles like The Sims 3, Tetris, and Scrabble. The publisher's teenager-targeted adventure game Surviving High School makes its first chart appearance at sixth place this week, as Rock Band drops to tenth place.

Other titles like Asphalt 5, Eliminate Pro, and Doom Classic have fallen out of chart range after strong performances last week. JellyCar 2 hangs on at eighth place in what could be its final chart appearance, while Glu's World Series of Poker: Hold 'Em Legend follows close behind at ninth.
