Another brisk week of sales has seen Square Enix’s mech based “dramatic simulation RPG“ Front Mission 4 claim the Christmas number one spot in Japan.

With few other new entries to compete with, the game’s nearest rival has turned out to be the GameCube’s Mario Party 5 which, along with Pokémon Colosseum, has made a surprise re-entry in the top ten.

This success has been echoed in hardware sales, which have seen the GameCube retain its newly increased market share at 22.97%. Meanwhile, combined Game Boy Advance sales have increased dramatically to 37.56%, eating away at the PlayStation’s reduced lead at 38.68%.

The Xbox though has finally fallen back to exactly its position before its Christmas price cut, with a weekly market share of just 0.58%. It has, however, been saved the indignity of being outsold by the PS one – which could this week only manage a market share of 0.14%.
