An interview with Nintendo president Satoru Iwata in a Japanese newspaper has shed light on the company’s mysterious new “product”, which it had previously hinted at earlier in the year.

Iwata has commented that the product, “will enable fun and movement not seen before... I expect it to become the third pillar, next to GameCube and Game Boy.” Apart from indicating that it would be unveiled at E3 2004 (no mention was made of the previously mooted January announcement) and would go on sale, in Japan at least, from mid-2004 no other details were revealed.

Speculation has already been rife that the description could refer to some new stand-alone EyeToy like device.
