GarageGames announced at the Game Developers Conference a new engine and multiple programs that make it easier for people to build their games. The Torque Game Development Platform recently added the Torque 2D engine, which joins the Torque Game Engine and the next-generation Torque Shader Engine to make a complete game development platform.

Firstly, GarageGames has just released the Torque 2D game engine (T2D). As a next generation 2D engine, T2D offers a set of features including animated sprites, flexible tiles, particles system, swept-polygon collision, rigid body physics and hardware-accelerated 2D rendering. Torque 2D is built on the Torque Game Development Platform and is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux at GarageGames.com.

Showcased at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) and featuring the new 1.4 engine with a new demo, "Tim Aste's Warzone", the Torque Game Engine (TGE) gets game developers everything they need to create a complete, full-featured game. With such features as graphics, audio, input, scripting, tools and network code, TGE lets independent game developers the ability to easily bring their ideas to life on any platform and then port it over to Windows, Mac OS X or Linux within hours.

The latest tech demo of the Torque Shader Engine (TSE) which was unveiled at GDC reveals the new terrain and water featuring oblique frustrum culling, dynamic normal maps and more. TSE gives game developers the tools and ability to create next-generation worlds with special effects and realism. Graphics rendering has been rewritten from the ground up and based on the Torque platform to take full advantage of the latest graphics and shader cards. TSE allows creation of larger, more complex worlds through real-time interior and exterior rendering.

Announcing for the first time at GDC and built on the Torque Application Platform, Torque Constructor is a full-featured interior editor. Providing a user-friendly interface, brush tools, and support for static meshes, Torque Constructor allows for rapid previewing and real-time modification with in-engine previewing. This multi-platform interior development tool will allow developers to architect complex interiors and load them directly into the Torque engine. Torque Constructor will run on Linux, OS X and Windows and will be available at GarageGames.com

The Torque Game Development Platform offers a variety of Artist and Developer tools. Torque ShowTool Pro (TST Pro) is the premier visualization tool for the Torque Game Engine. It provides access to behind-the-scenes structures by simulating in-game environments. For those game developers who need help getting started, genre specific starter kits are now available at GarageGames.com. For example, the Torque RTS Starter Kit provides foundational technology and modifications to TGE and facilitates indies in producing their own strategy games. TST Pro, Starter Kits and a wide variety of content packs are all available at GarageGames.com to assist developers make their games.
