Latest U.S. PC Game Sales Charts, June

While the essential information about the U.S. console charts already debuted online, chart compilers NPD have also released an individual chart for PC games in North America.

It reveals that, with new releases on other formats slowing almost to a stop, the PC has seen one of the most successful titles of the first half of the year, in the form of Electronic Art’s Battlefield 2. The long awaited sequel to Battlefield 1942 (spin-off Battlefield Vietnam was not by developer DICE’s core team) has sold over one million copies worldwide in just two weeks, with a significant percentage of these presumably being in North America.

Massively multiplayer online role-playing games Guild Wars and World of WarCraft have hung on tightly to the number two and three spots, respectively, just keeping off the new release of the PC version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. What effect the changing of the age rating for the game will have on sales will not be clear until at least the next month’s chart.

The only other new entry in the top twenty is the Star Wars Galaxies MMO bundle at number six, which includes all the previous expansions and additions to the game, and has clearly also benefited from the publicity following the release of the sixth and final Star Wars movie.
