The Grand Final of the 2005 World Cyber Games, held in Singapore, has drawn to a close with the USA as the overall victors. USA's team won two gold models and a silver medal during the five-day tournament event.

The two USA gold medals were in the Counter-Strike and Halo 2 events, with a silver in WarCraft. Second place was Korea, who also earned two gold medals for StarCraft and Warhammer, as well as a bronze in Dead or Alive Ultimate, while third place went to Brazil, whose team took both gold and silver medals in Need for Speed.

Other prizes awarded included the Samsung Fair Play award, which went to Brazil's Danilo Barros, and the first winners of the new mobile games division: Wu Jian Hong of Taiwan won Goolie; Tammy Brooke-Smith of South Africa won Chopper Rescue; Nik Zl Azmi of Malaysia won Bruce Lee, and Rishilan A/L Chandran of Malaysia won Midtown Madness.

"Digital games as part of the whole entertainment and media ecosystem is big business and a growing contributor to the global creative economy," said Singapore Minister of Information Dr. Lee Boon Yang, in his closing ceremony speech. We are therefore proud to be the host country of such events as they serve to reinforce Singapore’s position as a regional hub and gateway to Asia."
