The first winners of the Original Mac Games Cup, sponsored by iDevGames and Freeverse, has been announced: developers William Hogben and Stephen Johnson have won first prize with their top-down shooter Escort Wing.
According to the organizers, second prize went to chessboard strategy game Pawns, by Matt Diamond, while Will Thimbleby picked up third prize for Tracktor Beam, a physics-based puzzle game.
The OMG Cup was established to encourage independent game development on Mac platforms, by challenging designers to create innovative games for Mac OSX in six weeks. The games were judged by professional designers and artists on the basis of gameplay, originality, and presentation.
"The OMG Cup was created to recognize the need for original Mac games as well as to highlight the bright future of Mac gaming," said iDevGames editor-in-chief Carlos Camacho. "They, along with many talented independent game developers in our community, are advancing the state of Mac gaming at a grass-roots level."
All entries in the competition, including the three winners, are available for download at the official contest site.
