Developers Ritual Entertainment and Valve have announced that despite being conceived as episodic content, the various follow-ups to 1998’s first person shoot ‘em-up SiN will be available at retail in the normal fashion via Electronic Arts.

SiN Episode 1: Emergence will be available in Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand from May 12th (Half-Life 2: Episode 1 has already been announced for April 24th). Various online stores have already begun advertising the game at a price of around $20, reflecting the episodic nature and atypical length of each release.

Emergence is the first in an unspecified number of episodic adventures from Ritual that are powered by the Source game engine technology developed by Valve. It was thought previous that the episodes would only be sold through Valve’s Steam content delivery system, although evidently Ritual and Valve still consider normal retail channels to be necessary in reaching an appropriately wide audience.
