UK Charts: Cars Can’t Top Grand Theft Auto

Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories has seen off yet another high profile competitor at the top of the UK video game sales charts, this time in the form of THQ's multiformat movie license Cars.

The THQ-published title may yet make it to the top, though, since the movie is not released in the UK until July 28th. Indeed, the game’s jump of fourteen places in the week prior to the release suggests a bright future for the title once the film opens.

THQ is not the only publisher to benefit from movie cross promotions this week, with Ubisoft’s PlayStation 2 and PC license of Pirates of the Caribbean moving up six places, to steal the position held by Buena Vista Game’s portable tie-in last week.

However, there is only one new entry in the UK video game top forty, with Atari’s quasi-budget priced release of Super Dragon Ball Z entering at number thirty-five.
