Student Feature: 'Day in the Life: Savannah's Justin Pappas'

Today's Gamasutra educational feature, part of the expanded Gamasutra Education section of the site, dips into dreams and humor during a typical day for Justin Pappas, an M.A. student at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. Pappas describes the context of the school and his classes in the following extract:

"I arrive at class and choose a computer from the many available in the new and shiny classrooms that S.C.A.D. (Savannah College of Art and Design) has fashioned for its newest major, and take a seat and wait for the class to begin. The class is Environments and Level Design for Games, in which we use the UT2004 engine to apply the lessons we learn about good design, spatial relationships, and environmental charge (this is “Art School,” remember). Our teacher gives us lectures on the finer points of the UT2004 engine, from the simple things like setting a door to open when activated to the more difficult, like particle systems or ladder ascension coordinates, why they make no logical sense and how to work with them anyway."

You can read the full Gamasutra educational feature on the topic to follow along with Pappas' day (no registration required, please feel free to link to this feature from external websites).
