PSP And DS Both Pretty In Pink

Just days after Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) announced a new pink colored version of the slimline PlayStation 2, both the PSP and Nintendo DS are to have pink colored versions released in Europe - and on the same day.

SCEE will introduce a limited edition Pink PSP value pack on October 27th, which will included a pink colored PSP, as well as white headphones with remote control, pouch, wrist strap and a 32MB Memory Stick Duo. The newly colored console will be endorsed by female popstar Pink and will come with an exclusive Pink UMD disc featuring the star’s latest music videos.

"The P!nk PSP launch is much more than just launching a new color. It is about a confident and powerful attitude for young women. The association with P!nk, a worldwide icon and musical chameleon, will enable PSP to push new boundaries," said Stephane Hareau, PSP senior brand manager for SCEE.

At the Games Convention in Leipzig, Nintendo of Europe has also announced that it will release a pink colored DS Lite on October 27th, having previously launched the color to great success in Japan. The company claims that over five million Nintendo DS console have now been sold across Europe, with 44 percent of all Nintendo DS owners in Germany being female.

It is now only Microsoft who have yet to experiment with a pink colored console. But if these newest promotions prove popular, it may only be a matter of time before a pink colored Wii and PlayStation 3 are announced. Whether any of the consoles will be released in North America, though, is currently unclear.
