Officials from UK based international retailer GAME Group have announced the results of its first six months, showing profits of £6.2 million ($12.5 million), up from losses of £5.6 million ($11.3 million) the prior year.

The retailer said it saw total Group sales rise 76.8%, with like for like sales up 45.6%, excluding results from its acquisition Gamestation, which continues to be under investigation by the UK Office of Fair Trading).

The company also showed strong international sales, rising 75.2% and like-for-like by 42.6 percent. Including Gamestation, Game will have an overall retail store number of 1,120 by the holiday season, up from 825 last year.

Said company chairman Peter Lewis, "The strong performance reported today is a result of our hard work in getting GAME properly positioned ahead of the new technology cycle. We will continue to innovate and broaden our offer in an increasingly competitive retail environment."

He concluded, "We have a fast growing international business and are well placed for further organic growth. We look forward to the key Christmas trading period when our store portfolio will exceed 1,120 across the UK, Continental Europe and Australia."
