Round Up: SFII Update, Disney GAMEiT!, PS2 Paintball

Today's Gamasutra round-up includes news of an automatic update to the Xbox Live Arcade version of Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting, the new Disney GAMEiT! game systems, and Greg Hastings Tournament Paintball MAX coming to the PlayStation 2, as well as the latest GameSetWatch posts, Serious Games Source news, product news, and Gamasutra job postings.

- Via the weblog of staffer Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb, Microsoft has announced a new update to Street Fighter II’ Hyper Fighting, which was recently released over the Xbox 360's popular Xbox Live Arcade service. Players will be automatically prompted to download the update the next time they log into the service to play the game. The update will “address connection and time out issues that have been reported by players. In addition, the Leaderboards will be cleared in order to offset players that have cheated by causing intentional disconnections,” according information released by Microsoft's marketing team.

- VG pocket manufacturer Performance Designed Products announced a new line of portable gaming devices that will feature popular Disney characters. The new Disney GAMEiT! personal arcade system is both a portable device that can be played on the go or on a bigger screen while connected to a television. The GAMEiT! system will be available in two styles: “Classic Pals” featuring classic characters such as Mickey Mouse, Goofy and Donald Duck; and “Princess Pals” featuring characters from popular Disney animated films including Sebastian and Flounder from The Little Mermaid. Both of the units will feature games developed by Buena Vista Games exclusively for the Disney GAMEiT! line. In addition, the company will also make available Disney GAMEIT Starter Kits, which will include accessories, such as an interchangeable faceplate, a carrying case and a set of A/V cables. Developed for kids ages six and older, the Disney GAMEiT! line will be available this September.

- Activision announced today that Greg Hastings Tournament Paintball MAX will ship this fall for the PlayStation 2. The game will mark the first first time the series will be available for the PlayStation 2. The game will include a number of new features over previous games in the series, including a 'snake jump', 'ramping', and an adaptive AI for NPCs. Suppression fire, which will allow NPCs to pin down opponents, will also be included, as will be five new levels, 15 selectable characters, 10 new guns, and more than 80 new teams. The paintball game will also include licensed markers and gear from over 20 manufacturers and authentic field layouts from the three major leagues: NPPL, Xball and the Millennium Series. 'Round Robin'-style tournaments will also be featured in career mode, as well as online play and co-op. Finally, Greg Hastings Tournament Paintball MAX will feature new additions to the Breakout Manager and Field Editor, as well as new voiceovers including Matty Marshall, co-host of ESPN's US Paintball Championships.

- The latest updates on Gamasutra sister weblog GameSetWatch include frightening eBay felines, a second series of machinima newscasts from the Binary Picture Show, and game highlights from a recent Flash puzzle game design competition.

- Also updated today: Serious Games Source news, including a serious game created to marshal support for a new California health care bill, product news concerning a new partnership between Sierra and Technicolor for The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning and new multi-core threading tools from Intel, plus the latest Gamasutra job postings, featuring openings from ArenaNet, Blizzard Entertainment, Iron Lore Entertainment, Monolith Productions, Perpetual Entertainment, and The Collective.
