Softimage has announced the latest free upgrade for its Alienbrain digital asset management system, expanding OS and application support, and adding further integration with other content creation applications.

The latest Alienbrain update adds more support for Microsoft Windows Vista and Apple Mac OS X Leopard, and also adds digital content creation software integrations with Softimage's latest XSI, Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, Adobe Photoshop C3, Autodesk AliasStudio 2008, Autodesk 3ds Max 2008 and Autodesk Maya 2008, and allows for preview of DirectX files.

Softimage was engineered at the German facility in Munich of parent company Avid Technology, and it is aimed at easing version, management and sharing of digital asset files, as well as workflow construction.

Marc Stevens, Softimage general manager and Avid vice president, said, “This latest release of Alienbrain software underscores Softimage and Avid’s commitment to supporting open, mixed pipelines that empower artists. The beauty of Alienbrain is the tight integration it offers with art tools used by artists and game developers. Even if an artist doesn’t have an IT department, they can quickly and easily set up cross platform, cross application workflows in [the recent update to] Alienbrain."
