May 7, 2008 | By Eric Caoili

Officials from 3D applications developer Autodesk have announced that the company has completed its acquisition of artificial intelligence middleware developer Kynogon SA.

Autodesk originally announced its intent to acquire Kynogon for an undisclosed amount on February 19. Autodesk hopes to help developers "improve game play" and "stay on time and budget" with its line of middleware solutions now expanded to include Kynapse.

Kynapse, Kynogon’s artificial intelligence software which gives characters “spatial awareness” and enables them to realistically navigate digital environments, is widely used in simulation industries and has been utilized in the the development of high-profile titles such as Crackdown, Fable 2, and The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar.

Autodesk Media & Entertainment senior vice president Marc Petit said, "The acquisition of Kynogon extends Autodesk's leadership in game development and simulation technology. We welcome Kynogon's customers, partners, and employees to Autodesk. The future of video games is about more believable characters and environments."
