Aspyr Resurrects The Shield For PS2, PC

Publisher Aspyr Media (Stubbs The Zombie, Dreamfall) announced that it has signed an exclusive publishing agreement with 20th Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising to publish The Shield for the PC and PlayStation 2.

The game, developed by Point of View (World Championship Poker: Featuring Howard Lederer - All In) was previously thought to have been canceled following the merger of then publisher Sammy Studios and Sega.

The Shield is based on the popular police drama produced by Fox Television Studios and airing on the FX Network. Described as “a knockdown, drag’em-out brawler”, the game is scheduled to ship in North America and Europe this winter, and will feature several actors' voices from the show, including Michael Chiklis as Detective Vic Mackey.

The Shield follows Detective Vic Mackey and the rest of the Elite Strike Team special police unit as they struggle to keep the streets of Los Angeles safe. As Vic, the player will engage in true-to-life police work, such as busting crack dens, thwarting bank robberies, taking down gang bangers, and apprehending serial killers. In addtion, Aspyr notes that in order to succeed, players will have to resort to operating “outside the rules” by using brute force, accepting bribes, and holding incriminating information over other police officers.

“The Shield game captures the spirit, atmosphere, and production values of the television series it’s based on,” commented Ted Staloch, executive vice president of publishing for Aspyr, “and with its millions of viewers and fans, it is the perfect product to be our foray into the PS2 market.”
