This week's Japanese game hardware and software charts - covering the period ending December 21st, saw the PSP's weekly hardware sales surge -- but Nintendo's DSi still topping hardware charts.
Overall in the hardware charts, the DSi topped 200,000 units for the second week in a row, managing 204,100 units. While the PSP surged to 146,000 units sold, the Wii was still third, at 131,000 units, and the DS Lite continued strong sales at 50,300 units.
Further down Media Create's Japanese system countdown, the PlayStation 3 also got a slight boost from game software -- in this case, Gundam Musou 2 -- with PS3 hardware sales up from 33,700 to 39,000 units for the week as a result.
Sony's system is now regularly outselling the Xbox 360 in Japan by major amounts, with Microsoft's console managing 12,900 units for the week ending December 21st in the territory, ahead of only the PlayStation 2 at 8,700 units.
As for the game charts, Dissidia: Final Fantasy's 489,000 unit haul in its first week showed the strength of portable systems and Square Enix's evergreen franchise in Japan.
The aforementioned Gundam Musou 2 for PS3, with Koei mashing up Gundam robots and Dynasty Warriors gameplay, also did the business, with 176,000 units sold for the week.
Going down the chart, Kirby Super Star Ultra continued robust sales at number 3, with 150,000 and a lifetime to date haul of 779,000, and Animal Crossing for Wii (145,000) and Tales of Hearts for DS (124,000) rounded out the top 5 in the region.
