Round Up: Nyko Guitar, Top PC, SouthPeak & TopWare

Today's round-up includes news of a new wireless guitar for Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero II from Nyko, the top selling PC title in North America for the week of October 22, and a publishing agreement between SouthPeak Interactive and TopWare Interactive, as well as the latest Game Career Guide updates, Serious Games Source posts, GameSetWatch posts and Gamasutra job postings.

- Peripheral manufacturer Nyko Technologies announced that it will soon release a wireless guitar controller for use with Red Octone's popular rhythm games Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero II for the PlayStation 2. The controller, dubbed The Frontman, will be available this holiday season and carry an MSRP of $59.99. Nyko’s Frontman controller features 2.4 GHz wireless technology and a wireless chipset that provides a range of up to 25 feet. The announcement is particularly interesting given the lawsuit and counter claim filed by both Red Octane and The Ant Commandos over third-party Guitar Hero controllers, the outcome on either of which has yet to be determined.

- The NPD Group has released the list of the best-selling PC games for the week of October 22, 2006, which includes a healthy dose of expansion packs alongside a number of chart staples. Electronic Arts' recently released Pets expansion for The Sims 2 ranked on top of the chart for the week with the most sales, followed by the company's futuristic shooter Battlefield 2142. Microsoft's MS Flight Simulator X Deluxe was the third top selling PC title for the week, followed by Blizzard's World of Warcraft and NCsoft's Guild Wars Nightfall. LucasArt's Forces of Corruption expansion for Star Wars: Empire At War was the sixth best selling PC title on the chart, while THQ's Dawn of War expansion, Dark Crusade ranked seventh on the weekly chart. The Sims 2 itself ranked eighth for the week, while the chart was rounded out by Vivendi's Extraction Point expansion for F.E.A.R. and Microsoft's Age Of Empires III expansion, WarChiefs.

- SouthPeak Interactive (State of Emergency 2) has announced a new two-product publishing agreement with Las Vegas-based TopWare Interactive. The first game to be published as part of this deal will be Two Worlds, a role-playing game slated for a March 2007 release on both PC and next-generation consoles. The second game in the agreement has not been announced. “We were looking for a publisher that would focus on giving our titles the aggressive promotion and distribution they deserve,” said James Seaman, managing director of TopWare. “SouthPeak was at the top of our list and we look forward to partnering with them to bring out titles to market.”

- The latest updates on Gamasutra sister alt.gaming weblog GameSetWatch include a classic video game magazine advertisement titled 'So You Want to Be a Video Games Inventor', a look at a rather obscure Japanese robot title for the PlayStation 2, and a reminder for the 2007 IGF Student Showcase.

- The latest updates from Gamasutra sister website Serious Games Source include news of the Pulse!! training game being tested by medical institutions.

- The latest updates from Gamasutra sister website Game Career Guide include the release of the second edition of C++ for Game Programmers.

- Also updated today: the latest Gamasutra job postings, including openings from Amaze Entertainment, Blue Fang Games, Cranky Pants Games, Cryptic Studios, Perpetual Entertainment, Relic Entertainment, Sony Computer Entertainment America, and Volition.
