700,000 Join World Of Tanks Beta

April 7, 2011 | By Eric Caoili

Wargaming.net (Massive Assault) announced that some 700,000 gamers took part in its beta-testing period for online free-to-play game World of Tanks in Europe and North America.

Developed by Wargaming.net's Belarus studio and scheduled to launch in both regions on April 12, the client-based online game has been in closed and open beta for around a year as the developer adjusted the title based on player feedback.

During that testing phase, World of Tanks' beta recorded a peak concurrent user count of more than 25,000. In Russia, where the game released last October, its peak concurrent user count reached 74,536.

As its title suggests, World of Tanks is an action title centered on armored warfare, allowing players to battle it out in 15 vs 15 team-based battles while piloting 150 WWII-era vehicles from America, Germany, and the Soviet Union.

The online title features destructible environments, upgradeable vehicles, a dynamic combat system, and other features.
