'Internal Error' Causing Xbox Live Marketplace Access Problems
'Internal Error' Causing Xbox Live Marketplace Access Problems

Microsoft has confirmed to Gamasutra reports that users are having problems browsing and purchasing content from its Xbox Live and Games for Windows Marketplaces, saying an "internal operational error" is behind the issues.

Online gameplay and other features of Xbox Live appear unaffected by the problem, which was first reported by many gamers earlier this morning. Microsoft says it is "actively working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible," but gave no word on when service is expected to be restored.

The outage comes as Sony's PlayStation Store remains down over a month after an external breach that compromised millions of users' data. The company missed a tentative target to have the online marketplace up and running yesterday.

Microsoft gave no suggestion that Xbox Live Marketplace's current issues have anything to do with an external intrusion, as was the case with PSN.

In the wake of widespread, load-based Xbox Live outages in 2007, Microsoft offered users a fee copy of Chair's Undertow by way of apology.
