Saling The World: Minna no Rhythm Tengoku Tops Japanese Charts

Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide.

This week's charts, with data taken from July 21st, 2011, find Just Dance 2 and Mortal Kombat heading domestic multiplatform sales, while Minna no Rhythm Tengoku and No More Heroes: Red Zone lead in Japan.

Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows:

Multiplatform
North America: 1. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft, Wii), 2. L.A. Noire (Rockstar, PS3), 3. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision, X360), 4. Zumba Fitness (Majesco, Wii), 5. Mortal Kombat (Warner Bros, PS3).

Japan: 1. Minna no Rhythm Tengoku (Nintendo, Wii), 2. No More Heroes: Red Zone Edition (Marvelous, PS3), 3. Sengoku Basara: Chronicle Heroes (Capcom, PSP), 4. Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2011 (Konami, PS3), 5. Nora to Toki no Koubou: Kiri no Mori no Majo (Atlus, DS).

UK: 1. Zumba Fitness (505 Games, Wii), 2. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar, PS3), 3. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft, Wii), 4. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar, X360), 5. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision, X360).

Just Dance 2 reclaims top honors in North America's multiplatform sales chart, as L.A. Noire and Call of Duty: Black Ops trail at second and third place.

Nintendo's Rhythm Heaven sequel Minna no Rhythm Tengoku heads the Japanese charts in its debut week, while Zumba Fitness outsells Red Dead Redemption in the UK.


Nintendo Wii
North America: 1. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft), 2. Zumba Fitness (Majesco), 3. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo), 4. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo), 5. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo).

Japan: 1. Minna no Rhythm Tengoku (Nintendo), 2. Wii Remote Plus Variety Pack (Nintendo), 3. GoldenEye 007 (Nintendo), 4. Inazuma Eleven Strikers (Level 5), 5. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo).

UK: 1. Zumba Fitness (505 Games), 2. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft), 3. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 4. Lego Pirates of the Caribbean (Disney), 5. Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (LucasArts).

Just Dance 2 and Zumba Fitness remain strong sellers stateside, while Minna no Rhythm Tengoku overtakes Wii Remote Plus Variety Pack (Wii Play Motion) and GoldenEye 007 in Japan.


Xbox 360
North America: 1. L.A. Noire (Rockstar), 2. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision), 3. NCAA Football 12 (EA Sports), 4. Kinect Sports (Microsoft), 5. Halo Reach (Microsoft).

Japan: 1. Alice: Madness Returns (EA Games), 2. Steins;Gate: Hiyoku Renri no Darling (5pb), 3. Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon (D3 Publisher), 4. Steins;Gate (5pb), 5. Dance Central (Microsoft).

UK: 1. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar), 2. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision), 3. Top Spin 4 (2K Sports), 4. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Ubisoft), 5. FIFA 11 (EA Sports).

L.A. Noire leads the domestic Xbox 360 charts, as EA's Alice sequel outsells 5pb's visual novel Steins;Gate: Hiyoku Renri no Darling in this week's Japanese sales results


PlayStation 3
North America: 1. L.A. Noire (Rockstar), 2. Mortal Kombat (Warner Bros), 3. NCAA Football 12 (EA Sports), 4. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision), 5. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar).

Japan: 1. No More Heroes: Red Zone Edition (Marvelous), 2. Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2011 (Konami), 3. Alice: Madness Returns (EA Games), 4. inFamous 2 (SCEI), 5. Sniper: Ghost Warrior (Ubisoft).

UK: 1. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar), 2. L.A. Noire (Rockstar), 3. Dirt 3 (Codemasters), 4. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Ubisoft), 5. inFamous 2 (SCEE).

While L.A. Noire and Mortal Kombat continue to occupy the top chart spots in North America, a rerelease of Grasshopper Manufacture's No More Heroes unseats former sales champion Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2011 in Japan.


PC
North America: 1. Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty (Blizzard), 2. Rift (Trion Worlds), 3. The Sims 3: Generations (EA Games), 4. Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Gold Edition (Microsoft), 5. Final Fantasy XI Ultimate Edition (Square Enix).

Japan: 1. Rewrite (Key), 2. Steins;Gate (Nitro Plus), 3. Alice: Madness Returns (EA Games), 4. Alice in Nightmare (EA Games), 5. Ragnarok Online RJC2011 (E Frontier).

UK: 1. The Sims 3: Generations (EA Games), 2. The Sims 3 (EA Games), 3. Football Manager 2011 (Sega), 4. The Sims 3: Late Night (EA Games), 5. Pro Cycling Manager Tour de France 2011 (Ubisoft).

A temporary price drop puts Trion Worlds' MMORPG Rift among this week's top PC sellers at Amazon, as The Sims 3 continues to do brisk business in Europe.


Nintendo 3DS
North America: 1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (Nintendo), 2. Rayman 3D (Ubisoft), 3. Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition (Capcom), 4. Super Monkey Ball 3D (Sega), 5. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D (Capcom).

Japan: 1. Zelda no Densetsu: Toki no Ocarina 3D (Nintendo), 2. Starfox 64 3D (Nintendo), 3. Tales of the Abyss (Namco Bandai), 4. Ushimitsu Monstruo: Linse to Mahou Rhythm (Santa), 5. Ken to Mahou to Gakuen Mono. 3D (Acquire).

UK: 1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (Nintendo), 2. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D (Capcom), 3. Nintendogs + Cats: Golden Retriever & New Friends (Nintendo), 4. Puzzle Bobble Universe (Square Enix), 5. Pilotwings Resort (Nintendo).

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D once again ranks as the 3DS's biggest seller in all regions, and continues to outperform the recently released Starfox 64 3D in Japan.

North America: 1. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo), 2. Pokemon White Version (Nintendo), 3. Mario Kart DS (Nintendo), 4. Plants vs. Zombies (PopCap), 5. Pokemon Black Version (Nintendo).

Japan: 1. Nora to Toki no Koubou: Kiri no Mori no Majo (Atlus), 2. Pocket Monsters White (Nintendo), 3. Battle & Get Pokemon Typing DS (Nintendo), 4. Pocket Monsters Black (Nintendo), 5. PuyoPuyo!! (Sega).

UK: 1. Let's Draw! (Majesco), 2. Pokemon White Version (Nintendo), 3. Pokemon Black Version (Nintendo), 4. Mario Kart DS (Nintendo), 5. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo).

The Atlus-developed Nora to Toki no Koubou: Kiri no Mori no Majo heads Nintendo DS software sales in its premiere week in Japan, as PopCap's Plants vs. Zombies enjoys renewed popularity stateside thanks to a recent price drop.


PlayStation Portable
North America: 1. Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (Square Enix), 2. The 3rd Birthday (Square Enix), 3. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (Square Enix), 4. Need for Speed: Most Wanted (EA Games), 5. Dissidia 012: Duodecim Final Fantasy (Square Enix).

Japan: 1. Sengoku Basara: Chronicle Heroes (Capcom), 2. Steins;Gate (Kadokawa Shoten), 3. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (Capcom), 4. Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2011 (Konami), 5. Taiko no Tatsujin Portable DX (Namco Bandai).

UK: 1. Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines (Ubisoft), 2. Call of Duty: Roads to Victory (Activision), 3. Lego Pirates of the Caribbean (Disney), 4. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (Rockstar), 5. Football Manager Handheld 2011 (Sega).

A round of price drops at Amazon results in Tactics Ogre and The 3rd Birthday climbing the domestic PSP charts, as Capcom's Sengoku Basara spinoff Chronicle Heroes tops the Japanese sales results in its first week of release.
