Activision Licenses Unreal Engine 3 For Future Action Title

Major publisher Activision has announced a deal with developer and middleware creator Epic Games allowing the company to use Unreal Engine 3 in the development of an unspecified action game.

The brief announcement did not reveal any further details on Activision's project using Unreal Engine 3, which is also licensed by publishers and developers including Microsoft Game Studios, Atari, Real Time Worlds, Namco, Midway, Silicon Knights, VU Games, THQ, and Sony Online, and powers Epic's own flagship Xbox 360 title Gears Of War.

Explaining the deal, Activison's head of production Laird Malamed commented, “The Unreal Engine is one of the most technically advanced engines on the market and is a perfect fit for our upcoming action game...The engine's robust suite of programming tools will enable our development team to deliver what is sure to be an amazing game experience."

Epic Games' vice president Mark Rein added: “We've admired them for a long time and we're pleased that they've chosen to use Unreal Engine 3 and we're confident they're going to make a great game with it.”
