Product: Bigfoot, Emergent Partner On Anti-Lag Tech

Texas technology company Bigfoot Networks, along with Gamebryo engine developers Emergent, have announced that Bigfoot's Lag and Latency Reduction 2 technology will be incorporated into Emergent's server solutions currently in development.

According to Bigfoot, a game server powered by LLR2 technology hardware acceleration can hold more players per server and increase server responsiveness. In addition, games that use the technology will also be optimized for Bigfoot's already available Killer Network Interface Card (NIC), so users of this card will enjoy additional performance benefits when playing these games.

The technology was developed by Bigfoot in order to address the game industry's continuing push into the online space, which Emergent's vice president of engineering Larry Mellon notes as being “one of the most formidable challenges to the industry in years.”

Specifically, Bigfoot's LLR2 technology is a hardware chipset which includes a Network Processing Unit specially designed to accelerate video games. LLR2 works by getting data to video games faster, more reliably, and with less system resources. Owners of game servers who buy products designed with LLR2 will benefit from less lag because the technology will enable more players per server but at higher levels of server responsiveness.

"LLR2 technology was developed as a result of the massive number of inquiries we have received from game developers and game hosting services asking us for technology to help them improve game server performance," said Harlan Beverly, co-founder and CEO of Bigfoot Networks, Inc. "LLR2 technology is different from LLR Technology in that it integrates more closely with the game server software."
