MLG Acquires GotFrag, Adds Bromberg As CEO

E-sports firm Major League Gaming (MLG) has announced that it has acquired pre-eminent competitive gaming site GotFrag.com for an unspecified amount, as it also appoints a new CEO from within its internal ranks.

MLG, which bills itself as "the world’s first professional videogame league [and] the only sanctioning body for pro gaming", has a wide-ranging U.S. tour, currently sponsored by Boost Mobile, that includes competitive tournaments in games such as Halo 2, Rainbow Six Vegas, and Gears Of War. It also runs online tournaments in multiple games via its Gamebattles.com site, which was acquired in late 2006.

A notice on GotFrag.com itself explains of plans for the site, which has largely been PC-focused to date: "We are absolutely devoted to continue our coverage of all PC eSports with every league and event worldwide. We will be ramping up on our console eSports coverage as well."

The editorial continues: "We intend to continue our tradition of unbiased, professional journalism which our staff has worked so hard to establish in this community. What you may see from time to time, is our frank and upfront disclosure that GotFrag is owned by MLG. That’s to make sure that we’re being honest with you about who owns us when we write an article about them."

In addition to this announcement, MLG also revealed that its COO and president, Matthew Bromberg, will step into the role of CEO while current CEO and co-founder, Mike Sepso, will become the company’s chairman.

Before joining MLG, Bromberg was formerly general manager of MovieFone and general manager of AOL Games, and also worked at Gamasutra parent CMP Technology as Publisher and General Manager of the TechWeb Network.
