Recoil, 3D Realms Partner For Earth No More

3D Realms has announced that it will be partnering with Finnish upstart Recoil Games to produce Earth No More, an action game slated for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 in 2009 that promises collaborative play without "squad-based direction."

The game, which is first being revealed in consumer magazine Game Informer, but is also being confirmed via 3D Realms's website is still somewhat under wraps, though the site has revealed a few details.

The site quotes company officials from the magazine as saying, "The development team is specifically moving away from what they call the 'lone hero,' while also avoiding a squad-based direction."

The team adds that it is going to "design almost every weapon in the game to where it's going to have a sort of collaborative mode to it." One example, a gun known as a 'Linker' is described as "a reverse proton pack from Ghostbusters."

The site lists "group dynamics... in movies like the Alien, The Thing, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and 28 Days Later" as inspiration for the title, which ties in to Recoil founder Samuli Syvähuoko's own statements on founding the studio in March, when he said the company was working on a "large scale action game inspired by classic disaster movies."

Recoil Games was formed by Syvähuoko, co-founder of Remedy Games, which previously worked with 3D Realms on Max Payne. Other Recoil staff have had previous roles at Bugbear, Codemasters, Electronic Arts, Fathammer, Guerrilla Games, Housemarque, Treyarch and Ubisoft.
